Day 1 after Prod Support

Thanks GOD... these were my words when I finally handed the primary on call phone to Roger...

That was just too hectic. People keep coming with bizzare problems they are some time RUDE tooo...

This was the first time I came on on call support. I was bit excited about it. Took the phone from Kay at 2:45 PM... as she was leave early that day... Hardly any time would have passed after she left, the text message tones started ringing... Doreen announced that there is an outage... Panic all over... Dana came running... Doreen called ECC... but they need the Ticket number to reboot the server. So myself and Dana looked for creating ticket. None of us has done it before as it was Debbi's area, and she was on leave... Okay... Dana took the printout of the already created ticket and brought to my desk... we tried creating ticket with bare minimum required fields... after few unsuccessful tries...we were finally able to create the ticket. Mean while Doreen engaged the ECC personnel on the phone...guiding him to find the

My new interest

All of a sudden I have develop some interest in Geophysics. Plate tectonics, Oceanic, Formation of Grand Canyon, Effect of big dam on tectonic activities, cities situated on fault lines are my some of the topics my latest search on internet. It looks I am going to sustain this one for long time and if not contribute any thing to it, may be gain a lot.

Although this is not directly related to my field of work, but physics and geography have always been something I find interesting. Geophysics, being branch which ,takes something from both of them, is naturally the best suited candidate for my area of exploration.

There are some questions in my mind, Does the study of map comes under this, Does it also study the entropy of this planet, how closely astrophysics and geophysics related etc... I don't know If I will be able to get answers to these questions and what will be the effects of not being able to find answers to these questions, on my interest.

28 May 2007, As we spent it

It has been an interesting week. A holiday to start of with... Ohh man what else you need. A holiday on Monday. Thanks to much awaited memorial day. Much awaited.. Yehh... That's when I was born 28 years back. I was forced to take bath on a off day, she(Swati, my batter half...?) kicked me into the bathroom. Although I am not a great fan of bathing on off day, but in the memory of me obliging this planet and it's resident's 28 year back, took a shower.

Again she(you should know her by now...) dictated me to agree upon to go to the temple. ISKON Temple, in Redmond. I got the directions, got the bus routes and after a quick meal, set of for the pilgrimage. To our surprise, it happened again to us. Transit company kept us waiting for long in middle of no where. This time it was curtsy of Google/Transit.

After a long wait, we started our journey on our reliable mode of transport, our feet, to a different bus stop. And 2nd time in a row on a day, it happened again, bus didn't stop for us. Thanks for making my birthday so special: King county metro transit.

Finally got a bus for another suburb, Kirkland. I love kirkland. In the middle of a metro, it gives me a feel of a small town. After all this missing and catching of bus, all my excitement drained. I tried my best to persue her to go for a movie, but she was determined to take me to the temple. Finally got another bus that tool us to Redmond's Beer Creek P&R.

Then it was an easy search for the temple. We had visited the same temple at it's Sammamish location. A new and grand structure is coming up for our God, so our idols were moved to this mid-size office space in Redmond.

After puja (and Archna), and having tummy full of free lunch size prasad, started off again. As usual, undecided, not sure where are we going to hop now, started waiting for the bus. It was the same driver who dropped us here, was on the reverse route. I am sure he was the same person.

Forgot to talk about a pleasant gift I got from Manu. A Fossil Watch. I was wowed... seeing it. It beautiful, it's amazing, its stylish. That is one of the most pleasant surprises I've ever got.

We had to get it to fit on wrist. Had to get couple of links out of the chain. So we got down at stop close to Redmond town center, yet another shopping mall in the city. I somehow always like this place, but didn't manage to give it frequent visit. Walked down to Macys (elite american hang out place). I kind of confused as usual to buy another one or get links out of it, searched for watch that could grab my interest. But none could do so. So I finally decided to postponed any action on it until week end.

Now What...? After roaming here and there and not able to find any thing that could impress us, we finally decided to go back home. While we were walking to Redmond Park and Ride, to my surprise, 1st time an american stop by me to ask for direction. Now this is something I have never imagined even in my dreams. After giving her the direction, went to the bus stop and took bus to back to home.

Ahhh... Home Sweet Home. Some time I love it more then my pay check. After a while, I quickly checked a some movie on Rajshri.com, starring Jaya Bhaduri (i guess, that time she was not Bacchan) and some not so well known actor (not hero...). Short and sweet, 2 hr 4min and it's over. Manu realised later in the movie, she has sen this as well. If I would have to bate if she has seen a movie or not, I would have lot of money.

That's pretty much what we did on my this b'day...:)
